Rudetsky, Seth. “Broadway Nights: A Romp of Live, Love and Musical Theater”, Alyson, 2007.
“Everything’s Coming Up…” Funny
I love Broadway. The thrill of sitting in a Broadway theater listening to the overture of
a Broadway musical is an experience like none other. Seth Rudetsky knows Broadway and he shares The Great White Way with us in “Broadway Nights”. His comedy and timing is amazing and he loves Broadway. His book is the story of a man who was star struck by the theater as a youngster and who followed his dream and became a Broadway pianist and conductor.
We go on a joyous and comedy filled trip to Broadway with a tour guide who knows the book by heart. His life mirrors td the shows. Here is everything you ever wanted to know abut Broadway and it is told to you with comic genius.
Stephen Sheerin is (it seems to me) Rudetsky’s alter ego and the hero of the book and his life mirrors the author’s. He works on Broadway as a substitute in the orchestra pit. His love life is awful and the only men that he dates are already involved. When he gets the opportunity to be the musical director of a Broadway-bound show, things begin to happen for him but he doesn’t know how to cope with happiness.
“Broadway Bound” is a fun book and a great read. It’s light, it’s tender but most of all it is very funny.
