A Collection of Short Stories
I don’t know what I was expecting from this collection but I will say that the characters who inhabit the stories are very strange—they have made mistakes and they cannot move from the place they are. There is no passion and no movement. And it is not just the characters that are strange—the story titles are strange as well. Several times I had to pinch myself to see if I was really reading what I thought I saw on the page. It seems that the author has done a complete deconstruction of the short story and in doing so has created something new. I am just not sure what it is. Is it no wonder that the author of the collection is lonely? His characters are alone, his stories go nowhere and I am not sure that I learned anything. Perhaps after a while a light will go on and I will have a glimmer of understanding. I am hoping this will happen as I hate to give a review, like the stories, that says nothing.
