“Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother”
New Girl on the Block
Eva Destruction is now a real woman. Eva was Alexis Arquette’s drag name when he dressed as a woman for fun. Obviously that fun signaled something in him and he decided to have a sex change operation which was filmed and presented at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The film is a revealing look at Arquette’s life and his friends and family. It looks at the issues that brought him to go through with the surgery or did he actually have it. Reports from the TV show “The Insider” say that he never did and toward the end of the film, after he gets the signed permission to go through with the operation, he broke his ties with the filmmakers and his friends. In the last few scenes he refuses to say whether he went to the surgery or not or even to show what he decided. It seems that he feels that this information is private and is no one’s business but his.
If this is indeed the case, why is there a movie about him and this entire issue? If I remember correctly there has been a great deal of hype about this film and that he, himself, promoted it on TV and at the film festival. Is the film a fraud or t is genuine? Just who is Alexis Arquette?
Regardless the movie is interesting and quite well done. It reveals a lot about its star and about the entire issue of sex reassignment. I hope that we will see it soon on DVD.
