“The Party Crashers”–ahead of its time

“The Party Crashers”

Ahead of its Time

Amos Lassen

Try to imagine a party where a gigolo, a former professional athlete, an heiress, a figure skater, a live band, and three desperate men come together. The host is a hotshot young corporate attorney and the three desperate men are people who have been forced into crime by something that has happened in their lives. It seems that they know that the heiress will be there so they crash the party and hold the guests hostage, demand ransom from the heiress’s father and let him know that if he goes to the police, he will be responsible for the murder of innocent people. But of course there is really not an innocent person at the party—after all, the party is in California. The athlete and the gigolo have no morals and they spring to action and they try to diffuse the kidnappers and thereby let the guests so free. As time progresses we see that no one at the party is who he says he is and each has his own agenda. You have never seen a party quite like this. It also turns out that the screenwriter and his bisexual boyfriend are two of the kidnappers and this adds even more to the confusion.

There is not a weak performance in the film and it is pure fun. The movie is very clever and it is very funny. Some of the lines are great and even with an ending that was a bit confusing; this is an enjoyable way to spend some time.
